What have I been up to?

For the past few weeks I have been attending a traditional animation class at the local 839 Animation Guild, taught by a gentleman named Alex Topete. It has been a great opportunity to develop my skills. Among several exercises and challenges, every week we are given a scene from one of the Masters to rough inbetween. Here is an example of what we tackled this week. A scene from the great Marc Davis.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, I can not recommend this class enough. It is helpful to the newbie and the experienced. I am not a guild member, but it is open to non-guild members. There are other classes as well, from storyboarding to figure drawing. They are very affordable, and taught by some amazing artists. I will post some of my own work from the class in the next few days.

I have wrapped it up...for now. I had a blast with this one! I will probably go back to it in the future to add the necessary inbetweens to the walk, but tomorrow I am moving on to my next project.

Squash...

I addressed a few more volume issues, then continued on through to the big squash. I am looking to wrap him up in the next few days, then I will be moving on to a 3D animation I am currently planning.

Today I continued through with more breakdowns in the jumps. Additionally, I discovered my program was incorrectly interpreting my drawings at 30 fps instead of 24 fps. It is corrected, and the timing is much more improved!

Back and in Action...

I have been out of town for a few weeks, but I am back and working on the next pass. I reworked the walk and anticipation as he steps back and looks at his obstacle. Tomorrow I will be working more breakdowns into the middle third of the animation.

Flour Sack Pose Test...

I have always wanted to tackle this. My background is primarily in 3D animation, but I am working towards improving my 2D skills. The goal of the flour sack is a simple one: Maintain volume. He may move, squash, and stretch, but his volume must remain the same. Simple goal, but a challenging one. Expect more updates on this guy.
